The EU hopes for public and private proposals for the use of the satellite-navigation system Galileo.
Galileo has begun on Friday a public consultation for the possible use of the satellite-navigation system the European Union.

Galileo is established in competition to the US system GPS and costs about 3.6 billion dollars. According to schedule the system should be operational till 2011 and then been of use, among the rest, for traffic navigation, weather forecasts and financial transactions.

New uses for Galileo
With the public consultation which should last four months the EU hopes that private as well as public places extend the list in application possibilities and discuss the regulation as well as possible data protection doubts.

“Galileo means a unique chance for new uses, economic growth and new jobs”, according to EU-Verkehrskommisar Jacques Barrot.
