Galileo is the name of the European Satellitennavigationssytems which should be ready for use in the end of 2013. It bases on 30 satellites (27 three substitutes) which circle the earth at a height of about 24,000 km, and a net of the ground stations which control the satellites. Pocket receivers in the size of a mobile phone can determine from the radio signals of the satellites own position with an exactness of few metres. Galileo is conceived for civil purposes and is not defeated, like the US-American GPS and the Russian GLONASS, a national military control.
