Egnos means European Geostationary navigation Overlay service and will complement the American satellite navigation system GPS or improve. With GPS is the position on only 10 metres can be exactly ascertained, with Egnos the position on up to 2 metres can be exactly determined.

Egnos covers almost all European states and encloses three satellites and a ground net of 40 detection stations and four controlling centres.

However, Egnos is only one herald of Galileo, the European satellite navigation system should go at the latest in 2014 to company. For comparison Galileo has at disposal 30 satellites in the final stage of development.
